The Design Process: Where do we start ?
Initial Design Meeting
Hiring a professional is the first step in any successful renovation, decorating or building project. Following that will be a client meeting to discuss your project. Your first meeting will be an opportunity for you to share your ideas, preferences, needs, likes and dislikes. Often clients will ask “Do I need to sketch a floor plan of what I want?” A hand drawn sketch is always helpful but not necessary. A list of wishes and priorities is all that is needed. The design process has now started.
Preliminary Design Meeting
Two to three weeks have passed since the first meeting and now we will meet to present the preliminary design that has been designed for your home. You will take this plan home to review and analyze. A deposit is required when the preliminary plan is picked up.
Preliminary Design Review & Revisions
The preliminary plan will be reviewed at a second meeting. This is when any revisions are discussed and noted. The length of the preliminary stage can vary depending on the number of changes. The more sure your are of what you want and what you like the less time will have to be spent at this stage.
Preliminary Design Approval
Once the layout is approved by the client, we will proceed to the next stage of working on the final construction drawings.
Final Construction Drawings Review
These consist of exterior elevations, roof design, floor plans, foundation plans and building sections. Any changes at this stage are considered revisions and will be charged at an hourly rate. The time required for complete construction drawings varies.
